Valentine’s Day Craft Brew Picks

If you’re considering departing from the traditional wine or champagne route this Valentine’s Day, why not try a deliciously crafted specialty brew instead? No matter whether you’re celebrating your love for your significant other or celebrating your love of singleness, one of the two amazing (and Orange County-available) beers below will be sure to satisfy both the beer aficionado and the exploratory beer drinker.

Karl Strauss’ 21st Anniversary Ale
I highly recommend this amazing brew, as it is just downright delicious. Although it has a high ABV (over 10%), it is surprisingly smooth and drinkable, and delivers some awesome flavor combinations… think sweet caramel, vanilla, oak, and even red wine notes. According to Karl’s description, the 21st Anniversary Ale is a Belgian Strong Ale brewed with juice from old vine Zinfandel grapes, so it’s sure to pleasantly surprise the wine drinker as well as the beer lover. It is available during the month of February as a special release on tap at Karl Strauss locations (Costa Mesa for OC locals), in growlers, and in 22 oz. bombers. Pick one up to enjoy this Valentine’s Day with someone you love!

BJ’s Annual Grand Cru
This award-winning brew is available during January and February at all BJ’s Restaurants (see website for Orange County locations), and is quite the crowd-pleaser, selling out quickly in its 10th anniversary year. The Grand Cru is a Belgian-Style Pale Strong Ale, featuring imported Belgian malts and spices which render it high in alcohol (10% ABV), but deliciously silky and easy to drink. This is definitely an easy choice for drinkers drawn to fruity, malty, tummy-warming brews. Take some home with commemorative glasses to toast together!

Cheers!
