Many Southern Californians have eaten at Claim Jumper Restaurants, but few know that their Claim Jumper beers are brewed by Orange County’s own Bayhawk Brewery. According to their website, Bayhawk is Orange County’s oldest and largest microbrewery, which “specializes in brewing House beers for many fine restaurants and taverns throughout California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington.” The brewery is currently located in Irvine at McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant, and puts out 7 mainstay brews as well as seasonal offerings.
Besides the locally-brewed beer, another fact Claim Jumper patrons may have overlooked is the great Happy Hour offered from 3pm-7pm, Monday through Friday in the Saloon. During Happy Hour, beer lovers can enjoy the Bayhawk-brewed House beers for only $3.95 a pint, along with an assortment of tasty (and true to Claim Jumper style, large) appetizers to choose from.
The 3 Claim Jumper beers currently on tap at all Orange County locations are the CJ Hefeweizen, the CJ Original Red Ale, and the CJ Honey Blonde Ale. All 3 were medal winners at the California State Fair, and justifiably so; these are drinkable, delicious, and memorable beers. The Hefeweizen delivers a citrus twist on the traditional wheat beer, the Red is hoppy without a bitter aftertaste, and the Honey Blonde has a distinct Clover Honey taste that lingers on the palate.
